From a PDF script
to subtitles on stage
Import your script and StageText recognizes speakers and drafts the subtitles. Restyle a whole track at once, then just advance cues during the show.
If you can use PowerPoint, ten minutes is enough to get started.
Three steps
-
Import
Import a PDF script and StageText recognizes speakers and drafts cue-by-cue subtitles. You review and correct the draft.
-
Refine
Set font, size, color, and position per track, and every subtitle in that track updates at once.
-
Show
Show Mode sends subtitles to an external display. During the performance you just advance cues.
Who it is for
- Subtitle/surtitle operators, assistant directors, and stage managers at small and mid-size theatres
- Students running subtitles for a school play or musical for the first time
- Foreign-language productions with translated surtitles, and accessible performances with captions for deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences
- Anyone tired of building show subtitles in PowerPoint
What it is not
- Not a video subtitle (SRT) editor. It is a live playback tool where an operator advances cues during the show.
- Not live speech recognition. It displays a script prepared in advance, in order.
- Not a full show-control system like QLab. It does one thing: subtitles.

Is my script sent anywhere?
No. Subtitle and script text, project names, and file paths are never sent anywhere, and there are no accounts or sign-in. Anonymous usage statistics are on by default and can be turned off in Settings at any time.
Can I use it for free for a student or small production?
Yes. Basic is free with unlimited tracks. Commercial use is allowed and there is no install limit.
