StageText Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 8, 2026
Pinballz (the “Developer”) operates the StageText software (the “App”) and the website https://stagetext.app, and handles personal information as described below.
Summary
- The App has no accounts or sign-in. It does not ask for your name, email, or other identifying information.
- The App never sends subtitle text, scripts, project names, or file paths to the Developer.
- The App sends only two kinds of data: Pro license activation data (to Lemon Squeezy) and anonymous usage statistics (to the Developer’s server; sent by default, and you can turn it off in Settings).
- Information you enter at checkout is collected and processed by our Merchant of Record, Lemon Squeezy.
1. Data Processed by the App
1.1 Pro License Activation and Validation
When you activate, validate, or deactivate a Pro license, the App sends the following to the Lemon Squeezy License API (api.lemonsqueezy.com):
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| License key | The key issued at purchase |
| Device name | The computer’s hostname as set in the operating system (e.g. “Jun’s MacBook Pro”). Sent at activation only |
| Instance ID | An identifier issued by Lemon Squeezy at activation. Sent at validation and deactivation |
Purpose: Verifying license validity and enforcing the 2-device limit. Retention: The license key and instance ID are stored in the App’s local settings. Device names and activation records are kept by Lemon Squeezy. Deactivating in the App releases that device’s activation record. Legal basis: Performance of a contract (the license agreement).
1.2 Anonymous Usage Statistics (Telemetry)
To improve the App, it may send anonymous usage statistics to the Developer’s server (stagetext-telemetry.fly.dev, hosted on Fly.io in the Tokyo, Japan region).
Sending and opting out: Usage statistics are sent by default. When the App is first launched, it shows a notice explaining this and how to turn it off. You can turn telemetry off at any time in the App’s Settings; once it is off, no further data is sent and any data not yet sent is deleted. If you declined telemetry in an earlier version, your choice is kept.
Data collected:
- Anonymous identifier: a random ID (UUID) generated by the App. It is replaced with a new value on the first day of each month (UTC), so the same device cannot be tracked across months. It is not linked to any person, device, or account.
- App information (included with every event): app version, OS version, CPU architecture
- Usage events and their details:
- App start: whether this is the first session, time since installation as a bucket (under 7 days / under 30 days / 30 days or more)
- Project open: track count, cue count, speaker count, file format (extension), days since the project was created, project identifier (see below)
- Project save: number of editing commands run since the project was opened
- Cue added or deleted, line edited: minutes since the last PDF import
- Speaker assigned: the event only, no details
- PDF import: success or failure, page count, cues created, speakers detected, processing time
- Show Mode enter: display count, selected display index, cue count, local weekday and hour
- Show Mode exit: duration, cues advanced, blackout count, how the session ended
- Telemetry setting changed: on or off
- Project identifier: a hash of the project’s internal UUID combined with that month’s anonymous identifier. It contains no file name or content, cannot be reversed, and changes for the same project when the month changes.
- Error information: error type and stack trace. Before sending, the App automatically masks the user’s home folder name and any string of 32 characters or more.
Not collected: subtitle or script text, line type names, project names, file paths, user names, email addresses, or IP addresses. The Developer’s server does not store IP addresses. Connection information may, however, remain briefly in the hosting provider’s (Fly.io) infrastructure access logs.
Retention: 2 years from collection, after which the data is deleted automatically. Legal basis: Legitimate interest (improving the product). You can object at any time by turning telemetry off in the App’s Settings.
1.3 Data Stored Locally Only
The following stays on your computer and is never transmitted:
- Project files and auto-save / recovery files
- Recent files list
- App settings (language, telemetry preference, etc.)
- License cache (Section 1.1)
1.4 PDF Import
PDF script conversion runs entirely on your computer. PDF files and their contents are not sent to any server.
2. Data Processed at Checkout
Pro license payments are processed by our Merchant of Record, Lemon Squeezy. Information you enter at checkout, such as name, email, payment method, and billing country, is collected and retained by Lemon Squeezy under its own privacy policy (https://www.lemonsqueezy.com/privacy).
Through the Lemon Squeezy dashboard, the Developer can see the purchaser’s email, order history, license key, and activated device names. This information is used only to respond to license inquiries, process refunds, and keep purchase records. It is retained while the license is valid and for the transaction-record period required by applicable law.
3. Data Processed on the Website
The website uses Google Analytics 4 for visitor statistics. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect page views, referral sources, approximate location, and browser and device type, subject to Google’s privacy policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). You can opt out by blocking cookies in your browser or using the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
If you contact us by email, your email address and message are used only to respond to your inquiry and as reference for related follow-up inquiries.
4. Third Parties and Processors
The Developer does not sell personal information. The following providers process data on our behalf:
| Provider | Role | Data | Location |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lemon Squeezy | Payments, license issuance, activation management | Checkout data, license keys, device names | United States |
| Fly.io | Telemetry server hosting | Anonymous usage statistics | Servers in Tokyo, Japan |
| Google (Analytics) | Website visitor statistics | Cookie-based visit data | United States |
| GitHub | Installer distribution | Download access logs | United States |
These providers are located outside your country, so data may be transferred internationally to the extent necessary to provide the service.
5. Your Rights
- Stop telemetry: turn it off in the App’s Settings at any time.
- Access, correct, or delete purchase data: contact us below or use the Lemon Squeezy customer portal. Transaction records that we are legally required to keep are retained for that period.
- Release a device: deactivating in the App releases that device’s activation record.
6. Security
- All communication between the App and servers is encrypted with HTTPS.
- Telemetry is designed to exclude personally identifying information, and error data is automatically masked before sending.
- The Developer does not store payment details.
7. Children
The App and website are not directed at children under 14, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
8. Changes to This Policy
Changes are published on the website with an updated effective date. Significant changes, such as new data items or new purposes, are also mentioned in App update notes.
